Updates

I finally bought a plane ticket!  Boy was that an ordeal... it's like they tempt you with these awesome deals, and then as soon as you're ready to buy... POOF.  Gone.  A friend advised me to search in an incognito tab so that I wouldn't get cookies (because airline sites will track your activity and increase the prices if they see you looking), but even with that it was hard to find an arrangement under $600 that was workable.

Anway, I finally got a round-trip ticket for $350, which is decent, but now I'll be leaving Saturday night instead of Sunday.  Yikes!  Why am I wasting time blogging when I haven't even packed yet, you ask? Hush, don't ask questions.

I'll be staying with Barry's extended family in New Jersey for a bit until I'm able to find my own place.  It's a bit far from Manhattan, but it's definitely a lot less traumatic to stay with people I'm familiar with as opposed to an apartment I booked from some rando on the internet.

A few weeks ago, I ordered a portfolio book from Blurb, and it arrived yesterday.  Mainly, I wanted to be able to present my work at interviews in a way that was different and more professional looking than the typical plastic sleeve binder.  I also got some pocket book leave-behinds that I'm hoping will make an impression.  Although the hardcover book is a lot smaller than I anticipated, the quality is excellent.  It has a matte cover that's almost velvety to the touch and definitely does the cover picture justice, the printing quality is amazing, and the paper has a nice weight to it.  The pocket books are even more impressive in my opinion--the paper isn't nearly as good quality, but they're a perfect size (5x8"), they have a nice glossy cover, the printing is still faithful to the digital file, and at $5 apiece, I really can't complain anyway.  I'll be proud to show them when I get to New York.  :)

Here's a couple of pictures:

I'm hoping I'll be diligent enough to take lots of pictures when I leave, even if they're just silly Instagram pics, so that I can add them to my posts.

Alrighty, that's all I really have time for right now.  I need to start getting things together to pack, or at the very least make some lists or something.

Next time I write I'll probably be on the East Coast!  Cray.
